WHERE I STAYED: ROME

Hotel Margutta 19

Located on one of our favorite cobblestone streets in Rome: Via Margutta:

The elegant, intimate lobby is a wonderful restorative respite from day time wanderings. The breakfast served on the garden patio is divine.

You pass sleek art and decor galleries, quirky shops, a cozy restaurant and even a drinkable a water fountain (yes everywhere in Rome) on your way to and from “home.”

Margutta 54

Are their fabulous modern annex loft apartments just down the street. Set behind an imposing wrought iron gate and overlooking a shady private courtyard, these former artists' studios really make you feel like you are a lucky local entering your own palazzo.

Barbuino 181

A more affordable and equally lovely hotel in the Campo Marzio district. In a 19th century palazzo yet offering modern rooms and breakfast served on its rooftop that will help eradicate any jet lag.

Hotel De Ricci

On a lush quiet side street off of an even more charming one in our favorite Regola neighborhood, I’ve been dreaming about staying in this jewel box of a boutique hotel ever since I first toured it. Steps from Chez Dede boutique who helped do lots of the illustrations inside!

WHERE I WAS: ROME

Rome is one the few cities that whenever I visit, I want to return to my favorite haunts instead of exploring new ones.

WHAT I SAW: ROME

Nestled within the grand Villa Borghese which itself sits within the larger Borghese Gardens (rent a bike while there to explore its many paths offering scenic views, fountains and people-watching) the Galleria Borghese merits a first time and hundredth time visit.

Even in the airport, the food looks like this! A fresh harbinger of what’s to come when you taste all of Rome’s hearty, delicious delights.

WHAT I BOUGHT: ROME

There are so many artisans still working away in this city… who knows how much longer? Celebrate their craft by engaging with them. You’ll be the richer.

WHO I FILMED: ROME
Designer Teodora Diana Montanaro lives just outside the city on Appica Antica, one of the most historic roads in the world, lined with pine and cypress tress, fragments of aqueducts and villas. Visiting her bucolic family home felt like going...
