ALONG THE WAY: SAINT BARTHS
We met bartender Johann Bouard, who is more like a creative chemist dashing around mixing at some of the world’s most glamorous beach resorts, during Saint Barth’s Gourmet Festival. (Another NOT to be missed moment on the island that arrives annually.)
Johann was the special guest bartender at Eden Roc’s stunning bar, which was recently revamped by his talented wife, Elodie, who is a creative force in her own right.
Johann does things like making a BBQ margarita with pineapple iced seem as natural as pouring a glass of milk.
Each morning during the gourmet festival, we’d watch him lovingly and wholeheartedly, unpacking incredible spices and concoctions to be thrown together with all the panache of a magician later that night.
After we introduced ourselves, he kindly invited us to his special guest at his new 5 seat “My Lab in Paris”… A few months later, we were knocking on an unassuming door off the Champs Elysee and walking up a flight of stairs covered with a faded Oriental carpet...
We were soon transported into Johann’s unique urban world, channeling a 1920s speaker easy meets modern lab, also designed spectacularly and so thoughtfully by Elodie.
While driving to dinner during our last trip to Saint Barths, my beloved turned to me and said how I looked particularly radiant. “I’m simply wearing Saint Barths,” I explained.
